We have announced plans to build a new one-level 2,500-square-foot shelter custom-designed to house and care for cats. The new shelter will feature a cageless, low-stress environment with four free-roam adult cat rooms, a free-roam kitten room, a bonding room, and suites dedicated to cats with special needs. Groundbreaking is planned for mid-July, and construction is targeted to be completed before the end of 2019.
The new structure will be behind our building at 553 Waterman Street and adjacent to our existing shelter at 148 Fairground Street SE, which will remain open to provide shelter for both dogs and cats. We’re also renovating the existing shelter to improve our Intake and Isolation areas and provide additional housing for dogs.
We have chosen architectural firm Southeast Design, Inc., which specializes in veterinary clinics and animal shelters, and general contractor Morton Construction, Inc., to usher the project to completion.
